I knew nothing about Famagusta, other than that it had once been a popular resort town before the 1974 ‘partition’ of Cyprus. I decided to make it my first stop in the country, apart from a quick stop in Larnaca to pick up a hire car and a roll of Ferrania Orto 50 film. Then I drove to Nicosia, crossed the land border on foot, and grabbed a long-distance bus. Upon arrival, I found a city in two halves — one lived-in and one abandoned. These images, plus a short text, reveal what I found, told with the sort of honesty inherent in film photography.
